Thanks for reporting this.

The symbol is the conventional footnote backlink rather than a CR/LF character. I found that MarkdownViewer was rendering it as inert text, and footnote numbers were also one too high. Both issues are fixed: footnote references now navigate to their definitions, and the return arrow navigates back to the originating reference.

I am sorry to come along with another issue...
in your offline help md reader in dark mode the content in tables is unreadable (and not dark)
