Color versus Colour

This is really breaking my brain. Could we get an abstracted Color class that inherits from Colour built-in at least? 😃

Although, the properties also using "Colour" causes me headaches.

You know I wrestled with this for ages. Originally the standard library used Color as the type but I made the patriotic call to use the British spelling since I'm from the UK 🇬🇧 🎉 . Completely understand that everyone is used to Color. Let me think about the implications of using an abstraction or just renaming the type whilst the community is small.

Garry Well, if I had my choice, it'd be to rename it to Color. That's the standard in development fields, whether it be .NET, Xojo, or any number of others.

Being Canadian, and regardless of the language, whenever I have a custom method, property or argument name pertaining to Color, I always use the Colour spelling 😉

I mean, in your personal code, do whatever you like. For a framework, though, it's best to use things that make it easier for others. This is one those things that will be a constant annoyance for many (probably the vast majority), especially if they work in multiple development languages.

I’ve been thinking about this all day and I’m going to double down on Colour. I need to tighten up some American spellings that slipped in over aliases to .NET components.

I’m not trying to be contentious deliberately I just prefer that spelling and given I’m targeting newcomers to programming, I don’t think they will arrive with any preconceptions.

It’s different than other languages, I understand that. I’ll make sure the tooling and docs are remain awesome to catch typos in code. I’m already pretty proud of how well Objo provides clear warnings and errors.

well I am afraid to ask, but the German word for Colour = "Farbe" is out of scope then, isn't it? :-P
